Canadian Singer Justin Bieber has revealed that he is suffering from facial paralysis, due to a diagnosis of ‘Ramsey Hunt’ Syndrome.
The 28-year-old singer took to Instagram to explain the diagnosis, which is a side effect of shingles that can result in facial paralysis.
The hearing loss and facial paralysis associated with Ramsay Hunt syndrome are temporary, but they can become permanent, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Making the revelation in a 3 minute Instagram video, he said:
“As you can see this eye is not blinking. I can’t smile on this side of my face… So there’s full paralysis on this side of my face
It is from this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves and has caused my face to have paralysis”
He pleaded for patience from his followers and stated that he is “physically, obviously, not capable of doing” his next gigs.
He also smiled and blinked, revealing to his 240 million Twitter followers that the right side of his face remained motionless.
Bieber went on to say that he’s been taking facial workouts to “get back to normal,” but he does not really know how long it will take.
