Watford FC have announced the signing of Nigeria international Samuel Kalu from French Ligue 1 club Bordeaux.
The speedy winger has signed a three-and-a-half contract that will keep Kalu at the Premier League club until June 2025.
Kalu becomes the second Nigerian to join Hornets this month after his Super Eagles teammate and goalkeeper Maduka Okoye completed a permanent switch to the English outfit.
However, Okoye returned to Dutch club Sparta Rotterdam on loan this month until the end of the current campaign.
Watford released the following statement on their official website confirming Kalu’s arrival:
“The fourth new signing of the January window, Kalu joins full-back Hassane Kamara, central defender Samir and midfielder Edo Kayembe at Vicarage Road.
“The 24-year-old signs for the Hornets following three-and-a-half successful years in France’s top tier, where he scored nine goals.
“He will wear the number 28 at Watford. Welcome to the Golden Boys, Samuel.”
Kalu has joined his compatriots and Super Eagles teammates Emmanuel Dennis, William Troost-Ekong and Oghenekaro Etebo at Watford.
Since making his Super Eagles debut in September 2018, Kalu has accumulated 17 caps for Nigeria, scoring on his last competitive start against Benin.
