Power Dynamos have filed an official complaint against Nkana striker Alex Ngonga after he allegedly assaulted their midfielder Linos Makwaza Jnr at the end of Saturday’s Kitwe derby at Arthur Davies Stadium.

Ngonga entered Power’s dressing room after full time and allegedly slapped Makwaza. Power CEO Happie Munkondya said the club is treating the matter very seriously.

“After the game, Alex Ngonga went into the Power Dynamos dressing room. We thought he was going to greet his colleagues as a sportsman but little did we realise that he had intentions of attacking one of our players,” Munkondya said.

“He went to attack Linos Makwaza Jnr, which is very unfortunate. Quick reaction by our security people saved the situation.

“So we have taken the matter to FAZ and we are officially complaining on Sunday and we are also lodging an official complaint with the Zambia Police.”

Ngonga is an ex-Power Dynamos player who left the club in April, 2021 after falling out of favour with former coach Perry Mutapa.

Meanwhile, Power won the Kitwe derby 1-0 through an own-goal by Nkana defender Derrick Mukombozi in the 57th minute. Power’s victory also ended a two-match losing run in the Kitwe derby.

Nkana beat Power by similar 2-0 margins at home in the first leg on December 12 and away last season on May 9 2022, in a match in which Ngonga scored a stoppage-time goal just weeks after crossing the road from Arthur Davies Stadium to Nkana Stadium.
