Richards Bay took sole ownership of the lead in the GladAfrica Championship this weekend, while TS Sporting gave themselves a shot of beating the drop with a second consecutive victory.

University of Pretoria missed out on the chance to go level with the league leaders after being held to a 1-1 draw by JDR Stars at the Tuks Stadium on Friday.

AmaTuks extended their unbeaten run to 10 games, but find themselves two points behind the Natal Rich Boyz in second place, with the Hammer Boys (42) a further five points adrift in fourth position.

Richards Bay made it two wins from two as they beat Hungry Lions 2-1 at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday and Cape Town All Stars boosted their promotion bid with a 2-1 victory over Pretoria Callies at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium.

Igugu Lekapa (44) closed within three points of AmaTuks in third spot as the Romans (29) dropped to 14th in the standings, just two clear of the relegation zone.

Elsewhere, Venda Football Academy saw their promotion challenge suffer a blow following a shock 2-0 defeat to TS Sporting at the Thohoyandou Stadium, while Black Leopards continued their remarkable resurgence as they edged Free State Stars 1-0 at Goble Park.

Abantu Bemthetho halted a five-game unbeaten run for fifth-placed VFA to pull six points clear of rock-bottom Jomo Cosmos in 19th position and Lidoda Duvha moved up to 10th position with a fifth straight win.

Polokwane City lost more ground in the promotion race after playing out to a goalless draw against Platinum City Rovers at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium and in Sunday’s two matches, TTM drove another nail into Jomo Cosmos’ coffin with a 3-2 success at the Thohoyandou Stadium, while the encounter between Uthongathi and Cape Town Spurs finished goalless at the Princess Magogo Stadium.
